Jim
The short version:

W8JM, James (Jim) McVay was born in Wisconsin and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. First licensed as Amateur Radio Station KNØBWN in 1954 in Des Moines, Iowa.  Graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa with a BS in Industrial Administration.  Immediately joined the US Air Force and spent the next 21 years as a Fighter Pilot, Air Traffic Controller, Teacher and Computer Analyst.

Retired from the Air Force in 1985 while stationed in Fort Walton Beach, Florida (northwest Florida) and went to work for a government contractor as 'Manager of Software Quality Control'.  The paperwork and immobility didn't set well, so as soon as the kids were out of college in 1990 the house was sold, a 35 foot travel trailer and a big pickup truck purchased and we hit the road.  In the next twelve years we put 275,000 miles on two trucks and 125,000 on two trailers.  We have seen the sun rise in 42 of our States.  Only the New England states have escaped our travels and we will get to them soon.  Our travels were sidetracked by the beautiful Rocky Mountains.  We end up returning to Yellowstone National Park each summer and spending the winters on the Florida beaches.

Internet time used to be interrupted by long periods when we didn't have a telephone. However, we now hook a cell phone up to the computer and get our e-mail. Can do some browsing but its a little on the slow side.  Waiting for those two-way satellite systems to become reasonably priced.

That covers the short version.  Modern day gypsies who call the whole United States of America, "Our Back Yard".
