Alaska2.JPG (52659 bytes)In 1994 we left Key West, Florida in early March and headed for Alaska.  In the next 12 months we would put 15000 miles on the truck.  On the way we stopped in Glacier National Park, Montana.  We had first fallen in love with Glacier in 1976 when we vacationed there with our boys.  For pure mountain beauty and wilderness there is no place like Glacier.  This picture was taken in front of Ice Berg Lake.  It was taken in mid to late June and as the name implies there is ice in the lake for most of the summer.

Glacier1.JPG (37395 bytes)I need to do some more research on exactly where in Glacier Park this lake view is.   It's right off the road and the morning we passed by there was absolutely no wind making for this beautiful mirror picture with the little island with a single tree on it.

Waterton1.JPG (46592 bytes)While in Glacier we drove up to Canada and their Waterton Park.  This is a picture of the Prince of Whales Hotel which is located in a very picturesque mountain setting.   The northern Rocky Mountains located in Canada are every bit as beautiful, perhaps more so, than those in the United States.

Alaska1.JPG (58092 bytes)From Glacier Park we took a round about way through Yellowstone, Boise, Idaho, Salem, Oregon, Seattle, Washington to Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada.  In Dawson Creek we met with about 35 other RV rigs from the Holiday Rambler RV club that we belong to.  This caravan was the eighth trip for our Wagon Master and the quality of the caravan he led us on was outstanding.  This totem pole was located at one of the many museums that we visited along the way.  It is representative of the dozens we saw along the way.

Ancorage1.JPG (24793 bytes)This picture was taken in Anchorage.  Every once in awhile I attempt to get artistic with my camera and this was one of those times.  We were walking around a downtown area green belt when I spotted the reflection of one building in the other.   If nothing else it is representative of the many modern buildings that make Anchorage a true city.  A small city by the standards of big city folks but it is the largest in Alaska.

Alaska7.JPG (42611 bytes)Everywhere you go in Alaska you see airplanes.  This one was taking off from the Anchorage airport which has a runway but I would bet there are more water arrivals and departures than use the hard surface.  I spent an hour or so here just watching the bush pilots coming and going.   I also spent a significant amount of time at several of our other stops watching the activities of the bush pilots and talking to a few of them.  They all have some pretty good stories, and like to tell them..

alaska3.JPG (61371 bytes)Results of our fishing trip in Homer, Alaska.  These were the bigger ones.  Everyone on the boat caught their limit and we had a pretty good fish fry the next day.

Alaska6.JPG (47760 bytes)Valdez, Alaska, the end of the Alaskan Pipeline.  Somewhere I have a picture of mile marker zero of the pipeline.  I need to do some searching to come up with it.
