A few facts about the park.
- The park is 63 miles north to south and 54 miles east to west.
- 96% is in Wyoming, 3% in Montana and 1% in Idaho.

- 7 species of ungulates
- 2 species of bears
- about 50 species other mammals
- 11 species of fish
- 5 species of reptiles
- 4 species of amphibians
- Approximately 200 to 250 active geysers One of the worlds largest calderas (30 x 40 miles)
- Declared a National Park by the US Congress in 1872
- It contains 3,472 square miles or 2,221,766 acres
- It has 370 miles of paved roads, 5 entrances and 6 visitor centers
- Approximately 10% of the park is covered by water.
- Annual precipitation ranges from 10 inches at the north boundary to 80 inches in the southwest corner
- Temperatures range from 10 degrees mean January to 55 degrees mean July in the center of the park.
- Largest concentration of large and small mammals in the lower 48 states.
